Why do women go to University? Boris suggests it’s because “They’ve got to find men to marry”

Boris Johnson has placed his foot in his mouth again, as a recording emerged over his comments to a City Hall audience about women attending university in Islamic societies. Adam Bienkov reports that:

Asked about the role of women in Islamic societies, Razak told the Evening Standard’s Pippa Crerar:

“Before coming here my officials have told me that the latest university intake in Malaysia, a Muslim country, 68% will be women entering our universities.”

After which Boris interrupted with the suggestion that:

“They’ve got to find men to marry”

Is that really why Boris thinks more women are going to university in some parts of the world? And why was this questionable remark not covered in the Evening Standard, if the question was asked by one of their reporters? Would Ken Livingstone has got off so lightly…?
