Labour HQ have confirmed this evening that the party’s Commercial Director has left his post. John McCaffrey – who was hired in June last year with a remit to increase the party’s fundraising capacity – will continue to work with “key supporters” for the party as a consultant.
A Labour spokesperson confirmed to LabourList this evening:
“John McCaffrey has left his post as Executive Director, Commercial. He will continue to work with the party as a Senior Fundraising and Development Consultant.”
McCaffrey is the second Executive Director to leave Brewer’s Green this year, following the departure of Olly Buston as Executive Director for Membership in March – a position that has not been filled since. That means that only 5 of the 7 Executive Directors originally appointed by the party back are still in place.
There’s no word yet on who might replace McCaffrey as Executive Director, but it’s believed that former Deputy General Secretary Chris Lennie will be returning to work for the party, focussing on External Relations, on a part-time basis in the coming weeks.
