A new poll from Ipsos-Mori today shows Labour keep a healthy three point lead over the Tories, with UKIP a far off third.
A decent lead will please those under fire in Labour HQ, especially as it means that Labour hold a lead in more polls than they trail in this week – with last night’s YouGov tied at 34%. The topline scores for Ipsos-Mori are:
Lab 34%, Con 31%, UKIP 11%, Lib Dems 9%, Greens 8%
However, this does not mean Labour are out of the woods yet: this is a 4% drop from last month, with most of it apparently going the Green Party, who rise five points to jostle for third place with a stagnant Lib Dems and retreating UKIP. The relative success of the Green Party will be at least partially attributed to the upcoming European elections (where they always improve their vote) and relief will be felt that the Tories have not gained any ground.
So, not a great poll, but a good one, and one that can quieten the doom-mongers and send a message that we’re still in the fight to win next week’s elections.
