Yet another unbelievable new Tory minister…

Yesterday, Cameron surprised us all when he handed Amber Rudd  a ministerial. Rudd, a Conservative MP who alongside numbers other gaffes, once gave her her own constituency a back-handed compliment when she said “Hastings used to be this beautiful, refined seaside place”  isn’t the most likely suspect the get promoted. But, the PM’s alarming decisions didn’t end there.

He went on to make Alun Cairns the MP for  the Vale of Glamorgan the new junior minister at the Wales office. Maybe this doesn’t mean all that much to you – if you’re not familiar with Cairns, here’s a couple of things you should probably know about him.

On a live radio show a couple of years ago, he referred to Italians as “greasy wops”. Although he apologised, this clearly racist comment shows his true colours.

But, he doesn’t confine his insults to Italians. He’s also said that people in the UK who used food banks have to do so because they are unable to “manage money and to budget” or because they’re addicted to “alcohol or substance misuse”. Nothing to do with Tories spending cuts, then?

And, while throwing around insults about peoples’ finances, Cairns had problems of his own problems. Although he has said wind farms are ineffective and expensive, both he and  Guto Bebb, MP for Aberconwy, accepted a respective £5,000 in donations from a wind farm developer.

We wonder if Cameron chose to promote Cairns for his prejudiced views or hypocritical decision-making, either way we’ll be watching to see which he brings with him into his new position…
