At a meeting of it’s Scottish forum, members of the trade union Community this morning vote to back Jim Murphy to be Leader of the Scottish Labour Party and Kezia Dugdale to be Deputy Leader.

The members said that they thought Murphy’s proposals were “by far the best for reforming Scottish Labour and making Scotland a fairer nation”. While the union worked in partnership with Dugdale on her campaign against pay day lenders, and therefore feel her “energy and campaigning experience” make her the best candidate to be Deputy Leader.

On this endorsement, John Paul McHugh, Community’s Assistant General Secretary,  said:

“Our members are clear, they want a leadership team for Scottish Labour that can get our party back on track, can win elections and can make Scotland a fairer and a more prosperous country. With Jim Murphy as Leader and Kezia Dugdale as Deputy, Scottish Labour will be well placed to win back the trust of the Scottish people.
“Jim has a track record of winning and has already laid out an ambitious yet credible plan for taking Scottish Labour into government and using the powers of the Scottish Parliament to tackle poverty and increase pay in Scotland.

“Scotland’s trade unions need the Scottish Labour Party to be in government delivering for working people. Community believes that Jim and Kezia have the credentials to achieve this.”
