In an interview with Jason Cowley from the New Statesman, Nigel Farage has said he’d do a deal with Labour (who he compares to ‘the devil’ – surely confused because we’re pretty sure it wouldn’t be Labour playing the devil in this scenario) if ‘it got me what I wanted’.
He does go on to say, when probed by Cowley, that such a deal would be dependent upon the kind of referendum on the EU Miliband would be willing to offer. As it stands, Miliband has said he’s ruling out an referendum, unless there was a significant transfer of powers away from Britain and to the EU – instead advocating reform.
True to the usual anti-immigration, anti-EU drum beat that courses through Farage’s words, he made it clear that he’s willing to partner up with anyone if it gives him the chance to get into power:
“I’d be very comfortable supporting anybody that gave me an opportunity to get my country back.”
We’re pretty sure this isn’t an offer Miliband will be rushing to accept.
Update: Farage also suggests that he likes Alan Johnson and Jon Cruddas, but is less complimentary about the Shadow Foreign Secretary:
NF Can’t name most of them. Don’t know who they are. I mean, they’re just so bland it’s not true.
JC Alan Johnson?
NF Yeah, but he’s out now, isn’t he? Whenever I’ve met him, I’ve liked him. Jon Cruddas is somebody who I think gets it; I think he understands what the Labour Party ought to be . . . Again, if I meet someone like [Douglas] Alexander, I mean, he almost can’t bear being in the room [with me], I’m so lower-order compared to him. But people like Jon Cruddas, they want to talk to you; they can see politics is changing. And Kate Hoey is wonderful, obviously.
That’s city-boy and Dulwich College alumni Nigel Farage playing class war there, incase you were wondering…
