Labour maintain strong lead with voters in capital

Labour’s impressive lead with voters in the capital shows no sign of dwindling, with a new poll showing the party receiving the support of almost half of Londoners. It is the second poll, by different polling companies, to show them leading by 14 points in the city.
In late March, an ICM poll showed Labour were improving their standing in London seats, and today’s ComRes research  paints a remarkably similar picture. The latest results are:
Labour 46%, Conservative: 32%, Lib Dems: 9%, UKIP: 8%, Green: 4%

As we reported last time, a swing of this level could see Lib Dem MPs Lynne Featherstone and Simon Hughes lose their London constituencies – but the remaining Lib Dem voters could be concentrated in places where they already have MPs.

Sadiq Khan, Labour’s Shadow London Minister, said that positive polls would not mean the party would let up on campaigning in the coming weeks:

“This is promising news, but the only poll that matters is on May 7th. We are 100% focused on persuading Londoners that only Labour will fix the housing crisis in the capital. We won’t rest from our door-to-door, street-by-street campaigning until 10pm on May 7th.
