The Conservatives are launching their manifesto today. The cover was revealed earlier, with the manifesto apparently titled ‘Strong leadership a clear economic plan a brighter, more secure future’.
The cover has attracted attention for featuring future Tory leadership hopefuls George Osborne, Theresa May and Sajid Javid. Plenty of journalists have thrown all their effort into analysing the positioning of the rivals.
However, it seems it might not be the most original idea. It looks as though Cameron’s strategist Lynton Crosby may have been getting ideas from his old employers, the Australian Liberal Party, who had an incredibly similar manifesto cover in 2011 (via Mark Di Stefano).
It is starting to seem a little bit like Crosby, who is coming under criticism from Tories for spearheading an underwhelming campaign, is not even trying anymore.
But we’d guess there’s one thing that won’t be replicated in the Tory Party manifesto today: the watermark at the beginning of the document claiming everything is fully costed and funded.
