Labour agree to give break down of the leadership results

Labour’s Procedures Committee have agreed to give a full breakdown of the leadership results – showing how members, affiliated supporters and registered supporters voted – after the party originally said that they wouldn’t release this information.

The party announced recently that they would not publish the full breakdown of results in the Labour leadership contest. Though they noted that the National Executive Committee would have the powers to overturn this decision if they thought there was demand for this.

A LabourList survey last week showed that 84% of readers wanted the party to publish this result – a clear signal to the party to change tack.

This evening Joanna Baxter, who is on Labour’s National Executive Committee, Tweeted that the Procedures Committee agreed to a break down of the results:

If the result were not published it would not be clear how the vote was split between party members, affiliated union supporters and registered £3 supporters. Without these results it would not be possible to see what impact the party’s new election rules have had on the outcome.

The Procedures Committee oversees the election process and is made up of the General Secretary, NEC Officers,  Jonathan Ashworth MP , Margaret Beckett MP  and Ann Black from the NEC CLP Section.
