Jeremy Corbyn has been elected leader of the Labour Party in first round landslide

Jeremy Corbyn has been elected leader of the Labour party with 251,417 votes on first preferences – amounting to 59.5%.

Labour announced the results of their leadership election at an special conference in central London this morning. Corbyn was elected with almost 60% of the vote. Andy Burnham came second with 80,462 votes, Yvette Cooper third with 71,417 votes and Liz Kendall fourth with 18,857 votes.

The breakdown of results are:

FIRST ROUND:

Andy Burnham 80,462 (4.5%)

Yvette Cooper 71,828 (17%)

Jeremy Corbyn 251,417 (59.5%)

Liz Kendall 18,857 (4.5%)
