Corbynista group Momentum has launched a recruitment drive in an attempt to step up campaigning work across the country.
Following the group’s fast growth over the past year, the faction is attempting to develop a larger capacity to make change and mobilise their supporters.
Reflecting the grassroots philosophy supported by Momentum, it is expected to welcome dozens of new volunteers today in their head office in London.
The invite sent out their supporters reads “We’re using this opportunity to expand our volunteering operation across London.
“There is lots to do to build our movement for a more democratic and equal society and everyone can contribute their skills.
“Between 10:30am and 8:30pm tomorrow (Friday 13 May) Momentum will need some extra support post May elections.”
The left-wing body is a relative newcomer to Labour politics, describing itself as the “successor movement” to Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership campaign, forming last Autumn.
Since then its activities have involved campaigns on voter registration, canvassing for the May elections and supporting the #WheresZacsTax campaign.
The volunteer drive coincides with the start of the “Momentum Summer nights” project, in which it invites supporters to contribute ideas to the running of the group and contribute to its activities every Wednesday evening.
This follows the launch of the group’s membership scheme last month, marking a move towards a formal structure. Since the launch the group has recruited “thousands of members” across 130 local groups across the UK.
