Labour are six points clear of the Tories, according to the latest polling by Survation for the Daily Mirror. Labour are up three points on their previous poll late last month, as are the Lib Dems, while the Conservatives drop three and UKIP are down by four.
The results are:
LAB 34% (+3) CON 28% (-3) UKIP 19% (-4) LD 10% (+3) SNP 4% (NC) GRE 4% (+1) OTHER 1% (NC)
Several polls over the past few weeks have shown that support for UKIP is on the wane, while Labour appear to be reaping the electoral rewards of Miliband’s tough stance on tax avoidance.
The Lib Dems’ small recovery is one that has been predicted for some time – and while this result would see them down 13 points on their 2010 result, it could mean the difference between them being wiped out and holding onto enough seats to have the balance of power. If Labour do come out with such a lead on May 7th though, the likelihood of needing a coalition will be slim.
The SNP’s result may look meagre on a UK-wide scale, but the fact that they show no change from last month’s poll reiterates their dominance in Scotland.
Survation also asked a secondary voting intention question, which asks voters to take into account their constituency and local candidates. This gives a slightly different result, favouring the Tories, but still sees a healthy four point lead for Labour:
LAB 33% (-2) CON 29% (-2) UKIP 19% (-2) LD 10% (+3) GRE 3% (nc) SNP 4% (nc) OTHER 4% (+1)
