Angela Eagle emerges as new Shadow Cabinet favourite

shadow cabinet

Shadow Business Secretary and Shadow First Secretary of State Angela Eagle has emerged top of LabourList’s latest Shadow Cabinet rankings. It is the first time we have surveyed readers on the performance of the top team since Jeremy Corbyn held a reshuffle five weeks ago.

We asked readers to give each Shadow Cabinet member a rating out of five, and formed an average score for each minister. There was not a great difference between the top score, 3.55, and the lowest, 2.66.

Four of the top six places are taken up by new Shadow Cabinet members: Eagle and Hilary Benn both appeared in Ed Miliband’s top team, while Tom Watson, Lisa Nandy, John McDonnell and Heidi Alexander received post-Corbyn promotions.

Shadow Cabinet rankings

The last time we produced a Shadow Cabinet rankings was before the election, in April. Of the top eight places in that survey, six have now left the Shadow Cabinet: Yvette Cooper, Chuka Umunna, Harriet Harman, Ed Balls, Sadiq Khan and Caroline Flint. That survey also found Angela Eagle to be one of the most popular Shadow Cabinet members.

2,127 voted in this week’s survey. Thanks to everyone who took part. You can see the full results below.
