Last week we were wondering where Boris was – Thanks to the Sunday Mirror, we have the answer:
Update: Tom Watson MP has attacked Johnson for a “career defining blunder”:
“On the day Boris Johnson’s huge bus, tube and train fare increases came in the Tory Mayor was skiing in Italy rather than working for London. It’s a career defining blunder that characterises a Tory Mayor who is in it for himself, not in it for Londoners.”
“Running a major world city is a full time job – yet the Tory Mayor treats it as a part time role. It’s time for Boris Johnson to give up his £250,000 second job writing for the Telegraph and give his full attention to the day job.”
“London has had Boxing Day tube strikes, a spate of violent incidents over Christmas and New Year including a fatal stabbing in Oxford Street and the Mayor’s been silent throughout. Now we know he’s been skiing in Italy. He promised to tackle knife crime yet the latest police figures show it has rocketed by 13% in past year on his watch. Boris Johnson is mistaken if he thinks hiding away on the ski slopes will cut crime and make our streets safer.”
