Andy McDonald selected as Labour’s by-election candidate in Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough Labour Party today selected Andy McDonald as their candidate for the upcoming by-election. Here’s a short biography:

Andy McDonald is a solicitor for a trade union law firm Thompsons, a former Middlesbrough Councillor, chair of the party Local Government Committee and a governor of Middlesbrough college. Andy was shortlisted for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland in 2010.

Congratulations to Andy and commiserations to the other shortlisted candidates. The election is expected to take place on November 29th.

Update: Unlike yesterday’s close selection in Croydon North, the selection in Middlesbrough was more clear cut, with McDonald taking 118 votes with second placed Joe Docherty on 64.
