Weekly Survey: Darling v Salmond, NEC results and Austin Mitchell

have your say ll (long)

Yesterday’s televised debate between Alistair Darling and Alex Salmond was the second of the Scottish referendum campaign. Salmond appeared victorious this week, as Mark Ferguson covers in his review. However, the showdown earlier this month saw Darling come out on top, as Conor Pope reported.

That means one win each for the two sides, but who gained most? Does Better Together’s resilient poll lead mean the victory was theirs? Or is the momentum now with Yes to Independence? We want to hear your view.

LabourList had the coverage, analysis and the reactions to Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC) elections last week – and the London-centric balance drew consternation from some.

Does the London-heavy nature of the NEC point to a wider problem? Does it concern you? Or do you think it is exaggerated?

Austin Mitchell, the retiring Labour MP for Great Grimsby has recently made some controversial comments about female MPs. Writing in the Daily Mail,Mitchell criticised the so-called ‘feminisation’ of the Labour party through All-Women Shortlists (AWS). Mitchell went on to call for an end to AWS after the next election. In response, Johanna Baxter said that Mitchell’s comments were “ageist and sexist” and she argued he “showed us exactly why we need All Women Shortlists and why politics needs to change.”

What do you think of Mitchell’s comments, do you agree with him? Do you think he was right to say what he did but perhaps went about it the wrong way? Or do you, like Baxter, think he’s completely wrong?

The survey closes at 16.00 on Thursday. You can vote here.
