Changing Britain Together

As the election draws nearer the choice our country faces becomes starker. It is between a Conservative Party that will ensure our economy and our politics continue to benefit just a few at the top and a Labour Party that will deliver the reform we need to make this country work for everyone again.

Ed Miliband has underlined the strength and depth of Labour’s plan for change. This pre-manifesto report shows that Ed doesn’t just understand the problems, he has the answers as well.

Changing Britain together

To tackle the scourge of low pay, a Labour government will raise the minimum wage and ban zero-hours contracts. To defend our NHS, we’ll repeal the Health and Social Care Act and fund thousands more doctors and nurses. To ensure that everyone sees the rewards of growth, we’ll cut the deficit more fairly, bring back the 50p rate of tax and freeze energy prices.

The document we’ve launched is a blueprint for a fairer Britain. An economy built on the successes of many. A politics rejuvenated because we’ve shared power and responsibility. A society reunited on our common values. It is a Labour vision worth getting out on the #labourdoorstep for.

Our policy platform has been built over four years by listening to the concerns and aspirations of the British people, but it has also been built on your hard work. More than 200,000 people have contributed to our Agenda 2015 process, and party members across the UK have discussed and debated ideas.

Today I want to ask you to step up again, and take our policy offer into your community. Ask people what it means to them, and ask what they think should be prioritised in our manifesto.

To help, I am launching a package of resources over the course of the week. Every day we will release a short film on each of our national goals, and you can see the first one on low pay here. In addition, you can view our new manifesto hub here, and a short guide on how to run your own conversation event is here.

The other Saturday I was at a Changing Britain Together event in East Finchley with more than a hundred community activists and party members. We had a great conversation and good debate, but there was one thing that united all of us: the understanding that Britain has to change.

So let’s change it together.

PS – Every day this week there will be a blog on LabourList from a member of the Shadow Cabinet outlining their plan for a better Britain.

Angela Eagle is the Shadow Leader of the House and Chair of Labour’s National Policy Forum
