Message of the Day
Labour leaders are campaigning in a final push for a Remain vote around the country. When speaking in Manchester, Jeremy Corbyn said pressures of immigration were the failure of government, not the product of the EU.
“It is not individuals that we should be blaming because of their nationality or because of the colour of their skin or their ethnicity. It is governments that underfund and under-provide services, and companies that grossly exploit and seek to divide people. I’m just asking for a sense of proportion and a sense of decency about this.”
Forecasts
Today’s YouGov/Times poll gives a slim majority for Leave, who poll at 51, with Remain at 49.
However, the polling firm has warned this is within the margin of error which could still mean an In vote, especially when support for the status quo tends to increase towards polling day.
Quote of the Day
“I was also privileged to play and live in Madrid, Milan and Paris with teammates from all around Europe and the world. Those great European cities and their passionate fans welcomed me and my family and gave us the opportunity to enjoy their unique and inspiring cultures and people. We live in a vibrant and connected world where together as a people we are strong. For our children and their children we should be facing the problems of the world together and not alone. For these reasons I am voting to Remain” – David Beckham, on why he is voting to stay in the EU.
Goldenballs is not the only footballer with a take: Rio Ferdinand has also announced today that he is backing Remain, telling those who call it the unpatriotic choice to “Come off it”.
UKIP watch:
UKIP has released a weird new video which looks a bit like children’s film Chicken Run but is unlikely to convince even the under-10s.
The video features chickens kept inside a coop by evil EU regulations only to discover the outside is green and plentiful. It’s a pity even primary school children know that the perception of the grass being greener on the other side is rarely the case in reality.
On that note, UKIP’s latest poster also focuses on schools:
