Yesterday the IFS analysis of the Autumn Statement revealed that the government are planning “colossal” spending cuts in the next Parliament. George Osborne hasn’t taken this well, blaming the BBC for reporting this fact in a blatant example of shooting the messenger.
The Times commissioned YouGov to determine how the reports of ‘colossal’ cuts will affect the Tories’ election chances, and – unsurprisingly – it’ll make grim reading in Downing Street, with half of all voters saying it’ll have a negative impact.
The question is, how will Ed Balls – who has promised to eliminate the deficit in the next Parliament – respond?
