Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Thangam Debbonaire has lost her constituency race to the Green co-leader Carla Denyer.
The Green Party won just under 25,000 votes to beat Debbonaire into second place on just over 14,000 votes.
The Green Party is up by 30.6% compared to 2019, whilst Labour lost 25.9% of the vote.
Following boundary changes Debbonaire was running for the new seat of Bristol Central which included large chunks of her old seat of Bristol West.
Debbonaire had represented Bristol West since 2015, winning the seat from Lib Dem Stephen Williams.
In May the Greens surged to become the largest group at Bristol council elections. Two years previously the city voted to abolish the post of the city’s Labour mayor, Marvin Rees.
